The Weinlehrpfad is a self-guided walking trail through the vineyards surrounding Leibnitz, run by the local winemakers' school. Information panels along the route explain grape varieties, cultivation techniques, and the particular characteristics of the South Styrian wine climate, which benefits from warm Pannonian air from the east and cooling Alpine breezes from the north.
The trail winds through working vineyards, past weathered wine crosses — the stone Klapotetz windmills that are the symbol of the region — and between rows of Sauvignon Blanc and Muskat Gelb. The full circuit takes about two hours at an easy pace, with plenty of opportunities to stop and look across the valley. The winemakers' school occasionally runs guided walks with tastings; check the local tourism office for schedules.
