Penken is Mayrhofen's working mountain: the side with the bigger ski network, terrain parks, hiking routes, and fast access by gondola from the middle of town. In winter it links into the wider Mayrhofen ski area toward Finkenberg, Rastkogel, and Eggalm.
The mountain is also known for Harakiri, advertised as Austria's steepest groomed piste. You do not need to ski that run to enjoy Penken; most visitors come for the breadth of terrain and the ease of stepping from village street to lift station.
