Dachstein Skywalk

The Dachstein Skywalk is a steel-and-glass viewing terrace built into the south face of the Hoher Dachstein, reached by a five-minute cable car from Türlwand below. It opened in 2005 and is the headline attraction of the Dachstein summer programme.

Right next to it is the "Stairway to Nothingness" — a metal staircase of fourteen steps that ends in a transparent platform overhanging the cliff. It is genuinely vertiginous, even for people with strong nerves, and entirely safe.

A story
The Skywalk is a glass-floored platform cantilevered off the rock at the top station of the Dachstein cable car. On a clear day the view stretches from the Slovenian Karawanken to the Bohemian Massif — and straight down, through your boots, to the glacier 250 metres below.
