Ramsau is built around the mountains. In summer the focus is on the Dachstein massif looming above the village — cable cars run up to a glass viewing platform at 2,700 metres, an ice cave inside the rock, and a long suspension bridge over a 400-metre drop. The plateau itself is a low-key paradise of meadows, farm roads, and small lakes.
In winter, the village turns into one of Austria's premier cross-country skiing centres, with around 220 km of groomed trails. Alpine skiing is on the Dachstein glacier and at neighbouring Schladming. Ski jumping happens on the Mattensprunganlage hill on the edge of the village.
