When the ski lifts switch to summer mode, Schladming becomes one of the better mountain biking destinations in the Austrian Alps. The Planai gondola carries bikes to altitude, and a network of marked trails descends through forest and meadow back to the valley. The terrain suits cross-country and enduro riders well; dedicated downhill tracks are also available.
The Mountain Bike World Cup has been held at Schladming, which gives some sense of the technical quality of the trails. For those who do not want to ride anything extreme, gentler routes follow the valley floor along the River Enns and connect to the broader Enns Valley cycling network. Bike rental is available at several shops in town.
