Schladming's identity is built around skiing, and in winter the four linked mountains — Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling, and Reiteralm — offer 200 kilometres of excellent intermediate terrain. But the region has more layers than a ski brochure suggests: a well-preserved medieval centre, the Dachstein Glacier nearby for year-round snow, and serious hiking and mountain biking once the lifts switch to summer mode.
