Galzig

Galzig is the main hub on the mountain above St. Anton, the point where the runs from the Valluga area converge before dropping back to the village. The modern cable car station has a restaurant with one of the better mountain lunches in the resort, and a large sun terrace with views across the Arlberg to Lech and Zürs.

The runs back to the village from Galzig cover a wide range of difficulty levels, from broad blue pistes suitable for beginners to the steep black mogul fields that St. Anton's more demanding skiers prefer. The Galzig area is also the starting point for the longer ski routes through to Stuben and beyond.

A story
The Galzig cable car was built in 1937, making it one of the oldest in the Arlberg. The original cabins were wooden and held just six people. The current station was rebuilt in 2006 and can move 2,400 skiers per hour — a number that gives some sense of how dramatically St. Anton's visitor numbers have grown since the resort's founding generation learned to ski here in the 1920s.
