Valluga

The Valluga is the high point of the St. Anton ski area, reached by a series of lifts from the village and then a small cable car to the 2,811-metre summit. The ski runs descending from the Valluga Bowl are the most demanding in the resort — ungroomed, heavily crevassed, and requiring genuine off-piste ability — and are widely regarded as some of the best big-mountain skiing in Austria.

For those without a guide, the lower slopes below the Valluga still offer challenging terrain. The view from the summit terrace is the reason non-skiers take the lift: on a clear day the panorama extends across the Arlberg to the Swiss and Italian Alps. In summer, the lifts run for walkers doing the high-mountain hiking routes.

A story
The Valluga summit at 2,811 metres is the highest lift-served point in the Arlberg region. The top-station cable car holds only nine people and is reserved for skiers with a guide — the descent into the bowl below is entirely off-piste and requires full avalanche equipment. The panoramic summit terrace, however, is open to anyone who buys the lift ticket, and the view from the top takes in some 400 Alpine peaks on a clear day.
