The Parish Church of St. Jacob is the vertical marker of old Villach. Its Gothic tower rises above the centre, and the church interior preserves the layered feel of a town that sat on important routes through Carinthia.
Climb the tower if it is open, because the view explains Villachs geography better than any map: the Drau valley, the old roofs, and the mountains pressing in from several directions.
