The Parish Church of St Maurice stands above the village centre and still carries some of the fortified character common in older Wachau churches. A chapel existed here by the late 12th century, while much of the present church dates from the 14th to 16th centuries.
It is a quiet stop rather than a showpiece. Go for the age, the village setting, and the way the church helps explain Spitz as more than a row of wine taverns along the river.
