Batabat is not so much a destination as a high-altitude clearing of meadows, woods, and small lakes that locals come up to for the day. The main draw is the floating-island lake of Batabat Gol; the surrounding Shahbuz nature reserve protects oak and birch forest that is unusual for the otherwise arid Nakhchivan landscape. Bring a picnic and walking shoes — there is almost no infrastructure on the plateau.
