Gulistan Mausoleum

The Gulistan burial vault is a thirteenth-century mortuary monument near the village of Gülüstan, a few kilometres from old Julfa. It is one of the better-preserved medieval structures in the Julfa area, a tower mausoleum in the tradition common across Nakhchivan and the broader region. The carved stone decoration on the exterior — geometric patterns and inscriptions — reflects the architectural sophistication of the period when this part of the Araz valley was a wealthy crossroads.

The mausoleum sits in open countryside with few surrounding structures, which makes the quality of its stonework all the more striking. It is accessible by road and rarely visited, which means you are likely to have it entirely to yourself.
