The Dnieper gives Mogilev its geography. The city sits on high ground above the river, and the slopes and embankment help break up what might otherwise feel like a fairly heavy inland industrial city.
It is best in the evening, when locals come out for a walk and the centre relaxes a little. Do not expect a dramatic waterfront; the pleasure is in the scale of the river and the way it explains why Mogilev grew here.
