Gentpoort is one of Bruges's surviving medieval city gates, standing on the southeastern edge of the old town where the road once left for Ghent. Built in the early 15th century, it combines defensive bulk with civic display: thick walls, a bridge approach, and a towered silhouette that still reads clearly from the surrounding ramparts.
It is worth the walk because it pulls you away from the crowded Markt-and-canals circuit. The gate links naturally with a stroll along the green outer ring, where windmills, water, and quiet residential streets show a less polished side of Bruges without leaving the historic city.
