Luizen Windmill

The Luizen Windmill stands in the rural western edge of Brussels, where old square farms and walking paths still give Anderlecht a surprisingly country feel. The present mill is a careful reconstruction of a 19th-century windmill that was demolished in 1955 after years of neglect.

Local volunteers rebuilt it in the 1990s, and it has since been protected again as a historic monument. It is most interesting as part of a walk through the Pajottenland landscape that inspired Bruegel, with occasional guided visits and folk events around the mill.
