KOERS is one of the best sports museums in Belgium and the main reason to visit Roeselare. It tells the story of Belgian road cycling — from the cobbled classics and the golden era of Eddy Merckx to the modern professional peloton — through an extensive collection of bikes, jerseys, trophies, and multimedia exhibits. The museum is interactive and well-designed, with sections on the science of cycling, the culture of the sport in Flanders, and the grit of the spring classics.
The building itself is handsome — a renovated 19th-century structure on the Grote Markt. Even if you are not a cycling obsessive, the museum does a good job of explaining why Flanders cares so deeply about the sport. Allow at least two hours. The museum shop sells cycling-related books and memorabilia.
