Ypres has an hourly train connection to Brussels via Kortrijk. The town centre is walkable from the station. To visit the battlefield sites and cemeteries in the surrounding countryside, you will need a car, a bicycle, or one of the guided battlefield tours that run daily from the Grote Markt.
