Klek Peninsula

The Klek Peninsula reaches southwest of Neum and partly encloses the bay, separating it from the wider Bay of Mali Ston. From town it is mostly seen as a low, dry arm of land across the water, with scrub, rock, and small coves rather than big resort development.

It is worth seeking out if you want a quieter view of the coast or simply want to understand why Neum exists as Bosnia and Herzegovina's maritime outlet. The scenery is more austere than the postcard Croatian islands, but the geography is fascinating.

A story
The Klek Peninsula is a small piece of geography with outsized political importance: it helps define Bosnia and Herzegovina's narrow access to the Adriatic and the complicated coastal border with Croatia.
