Poda Protected Area sits just south of Burgas where lagoons, reedbeds, sea, and migration routes meet. It is a compact reserve, but the birdlife is serious: the wider Burgas wetlands are part of the Via Pontica flyway, so pelicans, raptors, herons, and many smaller migrants can pass through in impressive numbers.
The nature conservation centre makes the visit easy even if you are not a dedicated birder. Bring binoculars if you have them, and time the trip for migration seasons if birds are the main reason you are going. It is one of the best quick nature breaks from Burgas and a useful contrast to the beach-resort side of the coast.
