The main shopping street is Ilica, the long east–west spine that runs from Ban Jelačić Square out toward the western suburbs; it carries the international high-street chains and the local department stores. Smaller, more characterful shopping lives along Radićeva (climbing toward the Upper Town) and the side streets around Petar Preradović Square — clothing boutiques, design shops, vintage stores.
For food, Dolac Market is the obvious destination. For Croatian wine, several specialist shops on Vlaška and Frankopanska stock the small producers from Istria, Dalmatia, and Slavonia. The bigger malls — Avenue Mall, City Center One — sit on the southern ring road and require a tram or car.
