Palác Akropolis

Žižkov's beloved music and culture house — live gigs, club nights, and a faded-glamour café bar

Palác Akropolis is the cultural engine room of Žižkov: a 1920s former theatre turned independent music venue, club, and café that has been central to Prague's alternative scene since the early 1990s. The main hall hosts everything from Czech indie bands and world music to touring acts, while the smaller "Divadelní bar" and the Černý Pavouk theatre keep things going on other nights.

The street-level café and bar, with its battered booths, mosaic-tiled fountain, and bohemian regulars, is a fine place to drink even when there is no show on. Check the programme before you go — a gig here is one of the best ways to spend a Žižkov evening, and it draws a properly local, music-loving crowd.
