Žižka Square is the heart of old Tábor and the right place to start. The late-Gothic town hall, Dean's Church, Renaissance fountain, burgher houses, and Jan Žižka monument all sit within a few steps of each other, so the square works almost like a miniature history lesson in stone.
Do not rush it as just a way into the museum. The square's edges are full of gables, sgraffito, and small architectural details, and the lanes leading away from it quickly show how irregular the old town plan is.
