Langelandsfort Cold War Museum

Best-preserved Cold War NATO coastal fort in the Baltic, with submarine and aircraft

Langelandsfort was a NATO coastal defence installation built in 1953 to surveil and defend the Baltic Straits against potential Soviet naval movements. It remained operational until 1993. Four underground bunkers — operations room, cannon bunker, air defence battery, and ammunition bunker — are open to visitors in their original preserved state, with almost all furnishings and equipment intact. The grounds outside display a Cold War submarine (Springeren), a minesweeper, three aircraft, and four 150mm coastal guns. It is considered one of the best-preserved Cold War sites anywhere in the Baltic region. Open late March to October, 10:00–17:00. Located 3 km east of Bagenkop.
