Stoense Skov

Coastal beech and oak woodland south of Lohals, good for autumn raptor watching

Stoense Skov is the patchwork of beech and oak woodland that covers the coast immediately south of Lohals. Marked footpaths wind through the woods to small clearings and back to the shore. The forest floor in spring is carpeted with wild anemones; in autumn the leaf colour is the standard northern European display.

Langeland sits on the migration corridor between Scandinavia and central Europe, and the forests of the island's northern end are reliable spots for autumn raptor watching — honey buzzards, sparrowhawks, and the occasional sea eagle pass over in September and October. A pair of binoculars repays the visit.
