Liselund Park

Romantic 18th-century landscape park with a thatched château above the cliffs

A short walk from the entrance to Møns Klint, Liselund is one of the prettiest small estates in Denmark — a Romantic-era landscape park created in the 1790s by the French-Danish nobleman Antoine de la Calmette for his wife Lise. The main house, Liselund Gammel Slot, is a tiny thatched manor in restrained classical style, more cottage than château; it can be visited on guided tours in summer.

The park itself is the real attraction: winding paths, hand-cut grottos, a Norwegian-style wooden chalet, a Chinese pavilion, and theatrical viewpoints over the sea below. A section of the original park slid into the Baltic during a cliff collapse in 1905, taking the Swiss chalet with it — what remains is still one of the finest preserved late-Romantic gardens in Scandinavia.
