Sandur is reached by ferry from Gamlarætt on Streymoy — the ferry operates several times daily and takes about 20 minutes to cross to the island of Sandoy, landing at Skopun. From Skopun, the drive to Sandur is about 15 minutes south on the main island road. There is no airport on Sandoy.
Public buses on Sandoy connect Skopun to Sandur, though services are infrequent and timetables should be checked in advance. Renting a car in Tórshavn and taking it on the ferry is the most practical option for exploring Sandoy at your own pace.
