Gjógvaráfjall is the mountain that rises directly behind the village of Vágur to the west. The summit, at 345 metres, is one of the easier high points on Suðuroy to reach: a marked path leaves from the western edge of Vágur and climbs steadily up the southern flank, taking about an hour and a half each way.
The view from the top takes in Vágsfjørður, the open Atlantic on the west, the rest of Suðuroy stretching to the south, and on clear days the lighthouse at Akraberg. There are no facilities; bring everything you need. The summit is exposed -- check the forecast.
