St Anna's Church is the one sight in Kumlinge that can justify a ferry stop by itself. The stone church dates from the late Middle Ages and stands in a quiet clearing, with a graveyard and trees around it rather than a busy village square.
Inside, the wall and ceiling paintings are the prize. They are bright, narrative, and far more expressive than you might expect in a small archipelago church, with older fittings adding to the feeling that the island has kept more history than its size suggests.
