Lake Bodom is a small wooded lake in northern Espoo, surrounded by paths, a popular swimming beach, and a public sauna. On a summer afternoon it looks like exactly what it is — a low-key suburban swimming spot of the kind that locals visit on warm weekends. The lake is also forever attached to one of the most notorious cold cases in Finland — the 1960 murder of three teenagers camping on the shore — which has supplied the country with mystery novels, a heavy-metal band, and several films.
You can walk a 5-km loop around the lake (the southern half is the prettier section) and combine the visit with a stop at Glims Farmstead or the Oittaa recreation area nearby. The Bodominranta beach has changing rooms and a small kiosk in summer.
