Getting There

Kokkola sits on the Gulf of Bothnia coast in central western Finland, roughly halfway between Vaasa and Oulu. Several main roads connect the city to Turku, Jyväskylä, Kajaani, and Oulu. The scenic Seven Bridges Archipelago Road between Kokkola and Jakobstad (Pietarsaari) is worth the detour if you are driving.

The nearest airport is Kokkola-Pietarsaari Airport (KOK), about 22 km southeast of the city centre. There are daily flights to Helsinki, and the airport also handles some international connections to Stockholm. A bus connects the airport to town.

The train station is right in the centre of Kokkola. Express trains from Helsinki take around four and a half hours, and the Pendolino service runs daily. Trains also connect to Oulu (about two hours) and Vaasa (about an hour and a half). Long-distance buses serve the same routes and are sometimes cheaper.
