A grieving merchant named Fritz Arthur Juselius built this neo-Gothic mausoleum in the early 1900s for his daughter Sigrid, who died at eleven. The interior is decorated with frescoes by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Finland's most celebrated artist — though the originals deteriorated and had to be replaced by copies painted by his son. The result is unexpectedly beautiful, and the cemetery setting gives it a quiet dignity.

A story
Fritz Arthur Juselius commissioned Finland's greatest painter, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, to decorate the mausoleum for his eleven-year-old daughter Sigrid. The original frescoes deteriorated in the damp climate and had to be repainted by the artist's own son decades later — a second act of devotion mirroring the first.
