Kolovesi National Park

Lake Saimaa national park of cliffs, canoe routes, rock paintings, and ringed seal habitat

Kolovesi National Park protects one of the most atmospheric corners of the Saimaa lake system: narrow waters, steep rock walls, old forest, and islands that feel made for slow travel. Motorboats are restricted in much of the park, which keeps the place unusually quiet for paddlers.

Come for canoeing, kayaking, and the chance, never guaranteed, of seeing the endangered Saimaa ringed seal. The park also has prehistoric rock paintings, adding a human thread to a landscape that otherwise feels dominated by water, stone, and silence.
