Voie Verte du Lac

42-kilometre lakeside cycle path, almost entirely on dedicated track

The Voie Verte is the cycle path that loops Lake Annecy — 42 kilometres of flat tarmac, almost entirely on dedicated track, with constant lake views and a string of beach stops along the way. The western shore (Sevrier, Saint-Jorioz, Duingt, Doussard) follows the old railway and is the busier half; the eastern shore (Veyrier, Menthon, Talloires) is on quieter road shoulders and through villages.

A full loop with stops is a full day. The classic shorter outing is Annecy to Duingt (about 13 km each way) on the west shore, returning by lake boat with the bike on board. Rental shops along the Quai Napoléon III rent everything from town bikes to e-bikes by the hour or day.

A story
The western shore section of the Voie Verte runs along the bed of the old Annecy–Albertville railway, closed in 1965 and converted to a cycle path in the late 1980s — one of the first big *voies vertes* in France and still the most popular.
