When to Go

Méribel's season runs from mid-December to late April or early May, depending on snow conditions. The best conditions for skiing are typically February and March: reliable snowpack, longer days, and the resort at full capacity. School holidays (particularly French February half-term) make February very busy and expensive; if you want good snow but fewer crowds, early March is often the sweet spot.

Christmas and New Year are busy and expensive but atmospheric — the resort is beautifully lit and the après-ski scene is at its most festive. January is often quieter and cheaper after the New Year rush, with excellent snow if the season has been good.

Late April is end-of-season: the snow is wet and slushy at lower altitudes but excellent on the upper slopes, prices drop significantly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and local. The terraces fill up at lunchtime and the skiing is done by early afternoon when the snow softens too much.

In summer, the resort has a much quieter but genuine character — the lifts run for walkers and mountain bikers, the views are spectacular, and accommodation is far cheaper. The Méribel Music Festival takes place in July and brings classical and jazz performances to the resort.
