Lac de Gers is one of the more rewarding summer walks above Samoëns, a mountain lake set in open pasture and ski terrain. It is not wilderness in the absolute sense, but outside the busiest lift corridors it gives a fine taste of the high Giffre landscape.
The lake works well as a full-day objective if you want something more substantial than the village garden but less committing than the big routes around Sixt. Go early in hot weather; shade is limited once you are above the forest.
