Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval is close enough to Samoëns to treat as a half-day outing, but the scenery is big enough to justify much longer. The road ends beneath a vast horseshoe of cliffs, waterfalls, and high routes into the nature reserve.
If you have only one spare day in the Giffre valley, spend it here. Walk the cirque floor in spring for the waterfalls, or continue toward the Cascade du Rouget and the high refuge routes if you have strong legs and stable weather.
