Cahors is a compact, unhurried town that rewards slow walking. The Pont Valentré alone justifies a stop — it is one of the finest fortified medieval bridges in Europe. The cathedral, the old streets, and the Saturday market round out a half-day very pleasantly. Wine lovers will want to arrange a tasting at one of the Malbec producers in the surrounding hills.
