Camus is the largest cognac producer that remains entirely family-owned — now in its fifth generation — and makes for a more personal visit than the multinational houses. Founded in 1863, the company focuses on single-estate cognacs from its own vineyards in the Borderies cru, a small growing area just north of Cognac that produces particularly floral, nutty spirits.
The guided visit covers the ageing cellars and includes tastings. Because Camus receives fewer visitors than Hennessy or Martell, the experience tends to be less scripted and the staff more willing to linger over questions. The boutique stocks the full range, including single-cask and vintage releases.
