Rémy Martin

The only grande maison working exclusively with Grande and Petite Champagne grapes

Address 20 Rue de la Société Vinicole, 16100 Cognac

Rémy Martin's visitor experience is split between the town of Cognac and the company's Domaine de Merpins estate a few kilometres south, where the main ageing cellars and vineyards are located. Tours of the estate give a more agricultural perspective than the purely industrial experience at some larger houses — you see the vine parcels and the distillery before arriving at the cellars.

The LOUIS XIII experience, the house's ultra-premium product that matures for up to 100 years, is offered as a separate, bookable tasting. It requires advance reservation and carries a significant cost, but the presentation is remarkable.

A story
Rémy Martin is the only one of the major cognac houses that works exclusively with grapes from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, the two most prized growing areas in the Cognac appellation. This distinction — marketed as Fine Champagne — legally requires at least 50% Grande Champagne grapes. The house has been run by the same Hériard Dubreuil family since the 1960s and remains independent.
