Île d'Oléron does not have a complicated offer: beaches, oysters, cycling, and fresh air. The Chassiron lighthouse at the northern tip is the main landmark, Fort Boyard offshore is the most famous sight, and the fishing ports and oyster beds of the eastern shore are where the island's working character survives. Rent a bike and spend two or three days covering it all at an unhurried pace.
