Prevost Gate

Medieval gate tower with old defensive details on Thouars' vulnerable landward side.

The Prevost Gate guarded the more exposed side of Thouars, where the plateau rather than the river protected the town. Its stone passage and tower still show the defensive logic of the old walls.

It is not a long visit, but it is one of the pieces that turns Thouars from a pleasant old town into a coherent fortified site. Combine it with the Prince de Galles Tower and the castle edge.
