Salers is not well served by public transport. The nearest town of any size is Mauriac, about 15 km north, and Aurillac is roughly 45 km to the southeast. There is no train station; you will need a car.
From Aurillac, take the D922 northwest through Menet and follow signs for Salers. The road climbs steeply in the final few kilometres. Parking is available at the foot of the village — cars are not permitted in the historic centre.
From Clermont-Ferrand, the drive is about two hours on the A71 to Issoire, then west through the mountains on the D996 and D922. The mountain roads are scenic but slow.
