From the terrace beside the Collegiate Church the ground falls away to the Serein, the slow river that loops north toward Chablis. On a clear morning the view stretches across hedged pastures and clumps of woodland to the wooded ridge of the Morvan in the distance. Cattle and the occasional grey heron are the most you will see moving.
The village sits on a low hill — barely 60 metres above the valley floor — but it is enough to give the viewpoint the feeling of a small fortress. A short footpath drops from the terrace through orchards to the river, a thirty-minute round walk that brings you back up through the lower gate.
