Champagne Boizel

Family-run champagne house, six generations

Boizel is one of the smaller family houses on the Avenue de Champagne, founded in 1834 and still run by the founders' descendants. The visit is quieter and more personal than the big-name tours: a small group, an attentive guide, a walk through the family cellars and a tasting of three or four cuvees.

For travellers who want to talk wine with someone who actually makes it rather than queue with coach tours, Boizel and a few other family houses along the avenue are the best bet.
