Le Gouvernail is a rock formation and lookout below Bonifacio, reached by a steep descent of more than 160 steps. The name refers to the way the formation resembles a rudder on the map, jutting from the limestone at the edge of Corsica.
The descent leads to a late 19th-century bunker cut into the rock for a cannon position. The combination of military history, sea views, and Bonifacio's cliff scenery makes it a strong short stop for visitors who do not mind the climb back up.
