Allée des Étoiles du Cinéma

The Allée des Étoiles du Cinéma runs in front of the Palais des Festivals, with ceramic slabs bearing the handprints of famous film directors and actors set into the pavement. It is a free attraction and the easiest way to engage with the Film Festival atmosphere outside of May.

The selection of honorees is international: alongside French cinema legends you will find Spielberg, Tarantino, Wong Kar-wai, and Pedro Almodóvar. The plaques accumulate over time and the full walk takes about ten minutes. It pairs naturally with a circuit of the Palais des Festivals and a walk to the nearby Vieux Port.

A story
Unlike Hollywood's Walk of Fame, the Allée des Étoiles was started in 1995 and has celebrity handprints rather than embedded stars in the pavement. The ceremony is traditionally held during the Film Festival, when the actor or director presses their hands into a ceramic mould in front of photographers. A few of the plaques have become pilgrimages for cinephiles — Brigitte Bardot's is among the most sought out.
