The Martinez is one of the great Croisette hotels, an Art Deco building dating from 1929 that has remained in continuous use as a luxury hotel since opening. Its long, low, cream-coloured Art Deco facade is a reference point on the eastern Croisette, and the building holds the largest private beach on the boulevard.
During the film festival the Martinez is the hotel for the film industry's upper tier — producers, distributors, directors — and the poolside becomes an informal deal-making venue. Outside festival season it is a well-run luxury hotel with excellent restaurants, a spa, and a beautiful Art Deco interior that has been carefully preserved. The pool terrace in summer is one of the more civilised places in Cannes.
