Vieux Port (Old Port)

The Vieux Port is the historic harbour of Cannes, directly below Le Suquet, where the city's fishing identity is still visible alongside the tourist economy. Fishing boats tie up here in the morning after the overnight catch; the ferry pontoons for the Lérins Islands are on the north quay; and the fish market on the adjacent square does its best trade before 9am.

The quays around the port are lined with cafes and restaurants that are generally better value than those on the Croisette a few hundred metres away. A pastis on the harbour terrace watching the boats is one of the genuine pleasures of Cannes at any time of year. The evening promenade around the port, with le Suquet lit up above and the masts reflected in the harbour, is particularly fine.
