Eating Out

Le Puy eats well by small-city standards, with several good restaurants clustered around the old town. The local specialities are worth seeking out: lentilles vertes du Puy appear on almost every menu, often as a warm salad starter or as an accompaniment to Auvergne sausage. Verveine du Velay — a yellow or green herb liqueur made from verbena — is the local digestif.

The Place du Breuil and the streets around the cathedral are the places to look for restaurants. For a market, the weekly market on Saturday mornings has local produce including lentils, cheese, and charcuterie from the Auvergne.
