Things to Do

Le Puy-en-Velay's skyline is unlike any other in France: three volcanic plugs rising from a flat plain, two of them crowned with medieval structures. The cathedral and its cloister, the chapel on the rock, and the giant Virgin statue are the defining sights. The old town connecting them rewards slow exploration, with medieval streets, the regional lace tradition, and a strong Camino de Santiago atmosphere — this has been a pilgrimage city for over a thousand years.
